Balancing Traditional Methods
with 21st Century Tools
After more than 20 years in kindergarten, I decided it was time for me to go back to school. I was given the opportunity to teach the first "iPad infused" kindergarten class in the Napa Valley as part of my Master's action research project at Touro University. Yountville kindergarten was able to pilot iPads in 2011/2012 as a continuation of my research.
Integrating technology for young learners has become part of my teaching journey. Although I value traditional teaching tools, and love "old school" kindergarten, I am excited about the "21st Century Skills" our district has adopted for all students: creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking.
Artful Learning allows learning to emerge through critical thinking. In TK, Artful Learning naturally drives our curriculum since students often enter school curious about how the world works. Artful Learning honors all children, by providing a rich, integrated learning format, which allows all children to use their skills, and talents as they become amazing students.
